A Citi sales MD left London to join Standard Chartered in Singapore

There are a lot of outgoing MDs in Citi's London office; some are leaving voluntarily, some aren't. One sales managing director (MD) that spent more than 20 years at Citi's London office is out the door... and on a plane.

Rajesh Goyal has relocated to Singapore and joined Standard Chartered as its global head of private side solutions sales. He'll be selling Standard Chartered's financial markets platform, which provides "hedging and financing solutions." Goyal was most recently Citi's head of corporate solutions for CEEMEA (Central & Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa).

Citi has faced criticism from its incumbent MDs as droves of JPMorgan MDs join Citi's investment bank, following Vis Raghavan. It's alleged the recent cuts were linked to all the external hires. Goyal sat within Citi's global markets team, so his departure from the bank seemingly had little to do with that. However, Citi still had 10,000 roles left to cut as of January for its restructuring project announced in 2023, so it's not exactly a comfortable time to be a longstanding Citi MD. Perhaps, though, Goyal is just looking for a change of scenery.
