Al Nassr’s efforts were not enough to clinch the first title of the season as they fell 5-3 on penalties in the Saudi Super Cup final against Al-Ahli. However, Cristiano Ronaldo added another goal to his already impressive tally, bringing him closer to the 1,000-goal milestone.

With his penalty goal in today’s match, Ronaldo has now scored 939 goals in his career, meaning he is just 61 goals away from 1,000—a record that seems plausible given that he is still active. Regardless, he continues to extend his record as the top goalscorer in professional soccer.

The goal was also his 100th with Al Nassr, making him the first player ever to record over 100 goals with four different clubs and his national team. He has scored 145 goals for Manchester United, 450 for Real Madrid, 101 for Juventus, 139 for Portugal, and now 100 for Al Nassr.

Despite not clinching the title, Al Nassr showcased great moments in the final. Ronaldo opened the scoring from the penalty spot, but Al-Ahli responded with Franck Kessie’s goal before the end of the first half.

At the 82nd-minute mark, Marcelo Brozovic found the net to give Al Nassr the advantage, but Roger Ibañez prevented them from reaching glory with a great goal in the 89th minute, forcing a penalty shootout.

Ronaldo is still seeking silverware in Saudi Arabia

This was Ronaldo’s third final with Al Nassr, all of which ended in heartbreaking losses. The Portuguese star has yet to help the team secure any silverware in his three seasons, despite emerging as the team’s leading scorer.

However, the 2025-26 season is just beginning. Under the coaching of Jorge Jesus and with new signings such as Joao Felix, Al Nassr seems poised to fight for titles this year, as Ronaldo continues to add to his unmatched tally.
