Donald Trump az ultimátumot adja ki az Intel vezérigazgatójának: "Azonnal lemond"

Trending 5 months ago

President Donald Trump has called on the new CEO of the technology company Intel, Lip-Bu Tan, to resign immediately.

"The CEO of INTEL is highly CONFLICTED and must resign, immediately. There is no other solution to this problem. Thank you for your attention to this problem," Trump posted on Truth Social on Thursday.

Newsweek reached out to Intel via email for comment.

Why It Matters

Trump's intervention comes amid increased political concern over Tan's appointment as CEO in March. Arkansas Republican Senator Tom Cotton questioned Tan's ties to Chinese companies and the Chinese military on Tuesday.

In a letter to Intel's chair Frank Yeary, Cotton expressed "concern about the security and integrity of Intel's operations and its potential impact on U.S. national security."

"Mr. Tan reportedly controls dozens of Chinese companies and has a stake in hundreds of Chinese advanced-manufacturing and chip firms. At least eight of these companies reportedly have ties to the Chinese People's Liberation Army," he wrote in his letter, posted on X.

An Intel spokesperson said in a statement on Wednesday that "Intel and Tan are deeply committed to the national security of the U.S. and the integrity of our role in the U.S. defense ecosystem."

What To Know

Cotton's intervention, and Trump's in turn, came after Reuters reported in April that Tan has directly and indirectly invested in hundreds of Chinese companies, including companies linked to the Chinese military and $200 million in Chinese chip firms.

After Trump called on Tan to resign, Intel shares dropped in the premarket, trading 3.4 percent lower.

At the time of writing, neither Intel nor Tan has responded publicly to Trump.

What People Are Saying

Scott Lucas, who teaches international politics at University College Dublin, told Newsweek: "Trump's being a bully."

He added that lots of U.S. firms have links to China and that Trump made the statement in light of potential tariffs on semiconductors. "This is Trump's personal politics, it's not joined up economic thinking its just his impulses."

Arkansas Senator Tom Cotton, on X: "The new CEO of Intel reportedly has deep ties to the Chinese Communists. U.S. companies who receive government grants should be responsible stewards of taxpayer dollars and adhere to strict security regulations. The board of Intel owes Congress an explanation."

Florida Senator Rick Scott, on X: "President Trump is right, @intel owes American taxpayers answers TODAY. Intel accepted tax dollars from the CHIPS Act, and instead of investing in America, they cut jobs in the U.S. and hired a CEO with a cozy relationship to the CCP. The CHIPS Act was intended to benefit America, not our adversaries. Intel should return every dime of this taxpayer funding IMMEDIATELY!"

Ohio Senator Bernie Moreno, on X: "It's pretty obvious that @intel has failed to meet the commitments it made to the people of Ohio. Now we find out its new CEO is deeply conflicted with ties to the CCP. The CEO must immediately resign, the project completed, and a fraud investigation should be initiated by Ohio.

What Happens Next

Whether Tan bends to Trump's political will remains to be seen. So does whether Intel's stock price rebounds in the wake of his intervention.
