The heat could become dangerous later in the week with temperatures between 90 and 100 degrees inland and in the mountains. Weather forecasters are expecting Thursday to be the hottest day.
"As it gets hotter, it gets drier, and we are increasing our fire risk." said Capt. Mike Cornette of CAL FIRE San Diego County.
"We are asking people to be especially careful using any electric powered equipment outdoors, this week. That includes mowing your lawn. If you have to cut the grass, do it very early in the morning," Cornette said. Sparks can easily ignite dry grass or any other vegetation.

Fadi Alkass stands in his backyard, Sunday, pointing to the hillside spared by a brush fire last month, Jamacha, CA ,August 3, 2025.
“I could actually hear the crackling. It was hot and I could feel the heat." Fadi Alkass was in his Jamacha home on July 9th when winds whipped up flames and smoke just behind the two story house. Firefighters were able to contain it to 28 acres.
“Here’s what I think. (That day) the fire was farther away when it happened. If a new fire breaks out here it’s going to be too late by the time they get here," said Alkass.
A water tender truck could make the difference in stopping another fire. The specially equipped truck is just a couple of miles away at CAL FIRE headquarters in Rancho San Diego.

The tender truck carries a large tank that looks like a small swimming pool. It holds 2,000 gallons of water that firefighters can draw from quickly. Last month, the County Board of Supervisors approved funding to keep 4 of the trucks staffed 24 hours a day 7 days a week, without having to pull personnel off other fire engines.

Captain Cornette said, "the rural part of the county doesn’t have a water system. We have to find different water sources to maintain the water flow.”
