The President is among several national and local leaders who have released statements following the mass shooting at Annunciation Catholic Church in Minneapolis.
MINNEAPOLIS — President Donald Trump said he's been briefed and that the White House has is monitoring the mass shooting at a south Minneapolis Catholic church Wednesday morning.
"I have been fully briefed on the tragic shooting in Minneapolis, Minnesota," Trump posted on Truth Social. "The FBI quickly responded and they are on the scene. The White House will continue to monitor this terrible situation. Please join me in praying for everyone involved!"
Minneapolis Police were called to Annunciation Catholic Church just before 8:30 a.m. on a report of a shooting. Police say two children, ages 8 and 10, were killed, and 17 others were injured, including 14 children. Police say the gunman is dead from a gunshot wound, and that it appears he took his own life.
U.S. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon posted on social media that she is "devastated," adding that her office is reaching out to local officials for more information.

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz has also been briefed and said he will continue to provide updates as he gets more information.
"I'm praying for our kids and teachers whose first week of school was marred by this horrific act of violence," posted Walz, who added that the Minnesota BCA and Minnesota State Patrol are responding.

U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar released a statement saying she is "heartbroken" and that her prayers are with everyone involved.
“I am heartbroken by the horrific violence at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis this morningMy prayers are with the students, teachers, and families, and I am grateful for the first responders who are on the scene.”
U.S. Senator Tina Smith said she is in close touch with local officials, adding that she is "incredibly grateful" for the police and first responders.
“I’m continuing to monitor the horrific shooting at Annunciation Catholic School and I’m in close touch with local officials," Smith said in a statement. "Incredibly grateful for the work of the police and first responders in containing the shooter and attending to victims. This is the most horrific nightmare imaginable for the parents who dropped their children off at the first week back to school. My heart is breaking for my beloved Minneapolis.”
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey held a press conference late Wednesday morning, calling the attack an "unspeakable act."
"There are no words that can capture the horror and evil of this unspeakable act," Frey said. "Children are dead. There are families that have a deceased child. You cannot put into words the gravity, the tragedy or the absolute pain of this situation."

"I'm monitoring reports of horrific violence in South Minneapolis," Frey posted. "I'm in touch with Chief O'Hara and our emergency response team has been activated. We will share more information as soon as we can. Please give our officers the space they need to respond to the situation."
Senate Republican Leader Mark Johnson released a statement saying there is no place for this type of violence.
“My heart is breaking at the news this morning, and my prayers are with everyone who is affected," Johnson said. "There is no place for this kind of violence, and attacks on a sacred place and children are especially egregious. As a state we stand together against these violent acts and the wicked individuals who perpetrate them.”
State Senator Zaynab Mohamed also released a statement saying she is "absolutely devastated" for the community.
"I am absolutely devastated for our community. My heart is with the parishioners of the church, and the Annunciation students and their families," Mohamed said, in part. "I know some of them personally, and will make myself available to all of them to support them in any way possible."
"This is another tragedy in what has already been a painful period for our state and community. We must all condemn gun violence, and come together to work on real solutions to prevent future tragedy.”
DNC Chair Ken Martin released a statement calling it "a tragic day for Minnesotans."
“This is the first week of school for students at Annunciation. These families woke up this morning to celebrate milestones in their children's lives. Milestones like the first week of kindergarten," Martin said, in part. “We are heartbroken.
