LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - Laredo College, in partnership with Laredo Public Health, is hosting two health and resource fairs aimed at supporting new and expecting parents.
The events will provide local parents and students with information and resources to help balance work, school, and child-rearing responsibilities. Sylvia Trevino, a student health and wellness case manager at Laredo College, said the fairs will bring together more than 23 agencies in one location to help attendees access services for themselves and their children.
“This is for parents who are going to college, working, and raising their little ones,” Trevino said. “All the services they need are available in one place.”
Christina Duarte, health education and promotion manager for Laredo Public Health, added that the fairs are designed to provide support and guidance for individuals at any stage of pregnancy. “A healthy baby starts with a healthy mom,” Duarte said. “We’re here to provide resources before, during, and after pregnancy.”
The first event will take place on Wednesday, Aug. 27, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Fort McIntosh Kazen Student Center, first floor. A second fair will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 3, at the South Campus Billy Hall Building during the same hours.
Trevino noted that while the events are hosted at Laredo College, they are open to the broader community, not just students. Attendees will have the opportunity to speak with representatives from hospitals, health centers, and other partner organizations about services ranging from prenatal care to child wellness.
