MADISON, Wis. — A downtown Madison nonprofit will open a new behavioral health center this fall with support from former Green Bay Packers players who understand health struggles firsthand.

Tellurian Behavioral Health announced the launch of Jake's Place, a facility dedicated to improving the well-being of Wisconsin residents battling behavioral health and addiction issues. Packers legends Brett Favre and Don Majkowski, both of whom have publicly shared their personal experiences with addiction, were on hand for the announcement.

Majkowski spoke candidly about the difficulty men face when acknowledging they need help.

"Men do not like to admit anything is wrong with them. They don't want to admit we got a problem. I was the same way. It took me a long time to finally, you know, come to grips and become totally humble and admit you got a problem and to seek out help," Majkowski said.

Majkowski, who played quarterback for the Packers from 1987 to 1992, emphasized the importance of reaching out for support rather than trying to overcome addiction alone.

"Don't try to do it by yourself. Don't be ashamed, don't be embarrassed. Ask for help, and it'll be so much easier. It's the only way, the only way you will recover," Majkowski said.

Currently, Tellurian is seeking community donations to complete the furnishing of Jake's Place. The nonprofit relies on community support to provide comprehensive services to those who need them most. The fundraising effort will ensure the facility is properly equipped to serve clients when it opens later this fall.
