Shawnee County Health Department to host free event in celebration of World Breastfeeding Week

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - The Shawnee County Health Department will host a free community event in celebration of World Breastfeeding Week and Kansas Breastfeeding Month.

According to a press release from the Shawnee County Health Department, the event will be on Monday, August 4, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Health Department’s Training Room A, located at 2600 SW East Circle Drive in Topeka.

The event will include:

  • Welcome reception, refreshments, and raffle registration
  • A presentation on local breastfeeding resources
  • Open discussion on the importance of sustainable breastfeeding support
  • A free professional photo opportunity for pregnant and breastfeeding mothers, courtesy of local photographer Jess Stitt
  • Raffle drawing and closing activities

This event is open to all pregnant and breastfeeding mothers, their families, and community members interested in learning more about local resources and support systems.

“We are excited to bring together families and community partners to celebrate the breastfeeding journey,” said Missy Middendorf, Division Manager of Family Health. “This event underscores the importance of community support in maternal and infant health.”

Observed globally from August 1-7, World Breastfeeding Week aims to promote, protect, and support breastfeeding for the health and well-being of babies and families.
