UI Health suspends gender-affirming surgical procedures for patients under 19

CHICAGO (WLS) -- UI Health has suspended gender-affirming surgical procedures for patients under the age of 19.

The University of Illinois Hospital and Health Sciences System says this decision follows a careful review of recent federal government actions.

Other major hospitals in Chicago have also made changes to their trans health care for young people because of threats to federal funding.
